A quick post about the IIS 6.0 error "The tracking (workstation) service is not running". Sometimes, after an iisreset and restarting an SSL website, this error is displayed.
The error means the HTTP SSL service is not running. Start it with net start httpfilter and run iisreset again if necessary.
I originally wrote this post in 2008 for IIS 6.0 on Windows Server 2003, both long out of support.
Start the HTTP SSL service
To fix this error you need to (re)start the SSL service. In PowerShell or cmd.exe, type:
net start httpfilterThis starts the SSL service. Then type iisreset to restart IIS again (if necessary).
